How To Make Beaded Lanyards — Tutorial 101

A beaded lanyard is both pretty and useful because it can be used to hold keys, ID cards, and other small items. Making a beaded lanyard is a fun and easy craft that can be done in a short amount of time with just a few simple materials. In this article, we’ll show you how to make a lanyard with beads.

What you’ll need:

  • Beads
  • Nylon string or cord
  • Clip for keys or badges
  • Scissors
  • Optional: Beads and pliers for crimping

What to do:

Step 1: Pick your beads.

Pick the beads you want to use for your lanyard. You can use beads of any size, shape, and color. Make sure the holes in the beads are big enough for your cord or string to fit through.

Step 2: Get rid of the cord

Cut a 36-inch-long piece of nylon cord or string. You can change this length to make your lanyard any length you want.

Step 3: Put the key ring or badge clip on the bag.

Thread the key ring or badge clip through one end of the cord. Tie a knot in the end of the cord to keep it attached to the key ring or badge clip.

Step 4: Start putting beads on a string

You can choose how to put the beads on the string. You can make a pattern that repeats or mix up the beads for a more unique look. Make sure to leave about two inches of extra cord at the end.

Step 5: Put on some crimp beads (optional)

If you want to add a crimp bead to the end of your lanyard, slide it on after the last bead. Flatten the crimp bead with pliers to keep the beads in place.

Step 6: Join the ends with a knot.

After you’ve strung all of your beads, tie a knot in the two ends of the cord. Make sure that the knot is strong and tight.

Step 7: Cut off the extra string.

Cut the extra cord off the ends of the knot with scissors. Be careful not to cut too close to the knot, or it might come undone.

Step 8: Put a little glue on it (optional)

You can add a drop of glue to your knot to make sure it stays in place. This will make it harder for the knot to come apart over time.

Step 9: Have fun with your beaded keychain!

Your lanyard made of beads is now finished and ready to use. You can clip it to your keys, your ID badge, or any other small thing you want to keep handy.

A beaded lanyard is a fun and easy craft that you can make in just a few easy steps. With a few simple materials and a bit of imagination, you can make a unique and useful accessory that you can use every day.
