Afterglow beadwoven bracelet

Combine fire-polished and gold lustered beads in a feminine bracelet with elements of netting and right-angle weave

MATERIALS

bracelet 7 in. (18 cm)

  • 13 3 mm round fire-polished beads (crystal capri)
  • 4 g 11/0 seed beads in each of 2 colors:
    • A (Miyuki 593, light caramel Ceylon)
    • B (Miiyuki 301, dark topaz gold luster)
  • clasp
  • nylon beading thread, size D, conditioned with beeswax or Thread Heaven
  • beading needles, #11 or #12

1. On a comfortable length of conditioned thread, attach a stop bead, leaving a 10-in. (25 cm) tail.

2. Pick up a 3 mm fire-polished bead and three color B 11/0 seed beads, and sew through the 3 mm and the first two Bs again (FIGURE 1, a–b).

3. Pick up eight color A 11/0 seed beads, and sew through the B your thread exited at the start of this step and the first two As just picked up (b–c).

4. Pick up six Bs, sew through the first B again to form a loop, and continue through the next two As (FIGURE 2, a–b). Pick up two Bs, a 3 mm, and a B. Sew through the first B just picked up, and continue through the next two As (b–c). Pick up six Bs, sew through the first B again to form a loop, and continue through the next two As (c–d).

5. Sew through the next eight seed beads and 3 mm (FIGURE 3, a–b). 

6. Pick up three Bs, and sew through the 3 mm again (b–c).

7. Sew around the thread bridge between the 3 mm and the adjacent B, then sew back through the 3 mm, and continue through the next two Bs (FIGURE 4, a–b). 

8. Pick up eight As, and sew through the B your thread exited at the start of this step and the first two As just picked up (b–c). Pick up six Bs, sew through the first B again to form a loop, and continue through the next two As (c–d). Pick up two Bs, a 3 mm, and a B. Sew through the first B just picked up, and continue through the next two As (d–e). Pick up six Bs, sew through the first B again to form a loop, and continue through the next two As and the adjacent B (e–f).

9. Pick up three As, and sew through the corresponding B on the other side of the 3 mm, the next two As, and the adjacent B in the loop above (FIGURE 5).

10. Pick up three As, and sew through the second A added in the previous stitch (FIGURE 6, a–b). 

11. Pick up two As and four Bs, and sew through the second two As picked up in the previous stitch and the next three As and two Bs (b–c).

12. Pick up a B, and sew through the next two Bs and five As (FIGURE 7, a–b). Pick up an A, and sew through the next B, two As, and two Bs (b–c).

13. Pick up three As, and sew through the corresponding B on the other side of the 3 mm, the next two As, and the B in the loop below (c–d).

14. Pick up three As, and sew through the second A added in the previous stitch (d–e).

15. Pick up two As and four Bs, and sew through the second two As picked up in the previous stitch and the next three As and two Bs (FIGURE 8).

16. Pick up a B, and sew through the next two Bs and five As (FIGURE 9, a–b). Pick up an A, and sew through the next two Bs, two As, two Bs, and 3 mm (b–c).

17. Ending and adding thread (Online Basics) as needed, repeat steps 6–16 10 times, or until the bracelet is about 1⁄2 in. (1.3 cm) short of the desired length.

18. Pick up four Bs, half of the clasp, and four Bs, and sew through the 3 mm again (FIGURE 10). Retrace the thread path several times, and end the thread. Using the tail, repeat on the other end.
