Long and lustrous jewelry

Glass beads and seed beads make a necklace sparkle.

String a long, versatile necklace economically with seed beads and faceted glass beads. Because the necklace has a clasp, you’ll have the option to wear it wrapped twice. This necklace also looks gorgeous layered with lengthy gold chains.

SUPPLIES

necklace

  • 17–21 10mm faceted glass beads
  • 18–22 5–6mm rondelles
  • 2g 8/0 seed beads
  • 5g 11/0 seed beads, 4g in color A, 1g in color B
  • 34–42 4mm spacers
  • flexible beading wire, .014 or .015
  • 2 crimp beads
  • toggle clasp
  • chainnose or crimping pliers
  • diagonal wire cutters

  • 2 10mm faceted glass beads
  • 2 8/0 seed beads
  • 6 11/0 seed beads
  • 4 4mm spacers
  • 2 2-in. (5cm) decorative head pins
  • pair of earring wires
  • chainnose and roundnose pliers
  • diagonal wire cutters

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Cut a piece of beading wire. (My necklaces are 38 in./.97m.) Center: color A 11/0 seed bead, spacer, 10mm bead, spacer, color A 11/0.

2. On each end, string: ten color A 11/0s, color B 11/0, 8/0 seed bead, rondelle, 8/0, color B 11/0, ten color A 11/0s, color B 11/0, spacer, 10mm bead, spacer, color B 11/0. Repeat until the strand is within 1 in. (2.5cm) of the finished length.

3. On each end, string a color B 11/0, a crimp bead, a color B 11/0, and half of the clasp. Check the fit, and add or remove beads from each end if necessary. Tighten the wire and crimp the crimp bead. Trim the excess wire.
Tip!

Editor's tip: 

As you string your necklace, double-check that the pattern is correct. It’s easier than removing beads later to fix a mistake.

String a pair of sparkling earrings to match your lustrous necklace!

1. On a decorative head pin, string a 10mm bead, two spacers, an 8/0 seed bead, and three 11/0 seed beads. Make a wrapped loop.

2. Open the loop of an earring wire. Attach the dangle and close the loop. Make a second earring to match the first.
