Adventures in color jewelry set

Entwine strands of gemstones, pearls, and crystals in a multihued jewelry set
AdventuresincolorjewelrysetHero

You’ll love the combination of textures that comes together in these delicate, multidimensional pieces. Start with a mixed-color gemstone strand and add pearls and crystals. This necklace and bracelet both include tourmaline briolettes, but I chose muted colors for a dressy fall necklace and bright rondelles and crystals for a playful bracelet.

INSTRUCTIONS

Necklace

AdventuresincolorNeck1
1. Decide how long you want your necklace to be, add 8 in. (20cm), and cut two pieces of beading wire to that length. (My necklace is 17 in./43cm.) On one wire, center: bicone crystal, flat spacer, rondelle, flat spacer, bicone. On the second wire, center: briolette, 3–4mm pearl, 5–6mm pearl, 3–4mm pearl, briolette.

2. On each side, over both wires, string a round spacer. Separate the wires and continue stringing the patterns from step 1 on the same wire. Repeat until the necklace is within 1 in. (2.5cm) of the finished length. (As you string, keep the wires taut so the briolette strand curls around the crystal strand.)

3. On each side, over both wires, string a round spacer, a crimp bead, a round spacer, and half of a clasp. Check the fit, and add or remove beads if necessary. Go back through the beads just strung and tighten the wires. Crimp the crimp bead and trim the excess wire. Use chainnose pliers to close a crimp cover over each finished crimp.

Editor's Tips:

  • For a budget-friendly option, try a strand of faceted glass rondelles in mixed colors (Eclectica).
  • In the necklace, I wanted the colors to balance on each side, so I started at the center. If stringing from one end to the other makes it easier to keep the wires taut, you can do that, too.

Bracelet
AdventuresincolorBrace1
1. On a head pin, string two or three beads as desired. Make the first half of a wrapped loop. Set the bead unit aside for step 3. Cut two 12-in. (30cm) pieces of beading wire. Follow the patterns from steps 1 and 2 of the necklace.
AdventuresincolorBrace2
2. On one side, over both wires, string a round spacer, a crimp bead, a round spacer, and a lobster claw clasp. Repeat on the other end, substituting a 1-in. (2.5cm) piece of chain for the clasp. Check the fit, and add or remove beads if necessary. Go back through the beads just strung and tighten the wires. Crimp the crimp beads and trim the excess wire.

3. Attach the bead unit to the chain, and complete the wraps. Use chainnose pliers to close a crimp cover over each finished crimp.

Earrings
AdventuresincolorEar1
1. On a jeweled head pin, string a rondelle, a spacer, and a bicone crystal. Make a plain loop.

2. Open the loop of an earring wire and attach the dangle. Close the loop. Make a second earring to match the first.
