Wood and glass beaded bracelet

Inexpensive wood beads complement an off-center focal bead.

This simple bracelet gets a pop of color from a handmade chartreuse bead. The materials are easy to find—try a craft store for wood saucer beads—and the combination is both earthy and modern.

  • 11–14 mm glass bead
  • 15–20 8–10 mm wood saucer beads
  • 17–22 8/0 seed beads
  • flexible beading wire, .014 or .015
  • 2 crimp beads
  • toggle clasp
  • chainnose or crimping pliers
  • diagonal wire cutters

The lampworked glass bead used in this project is from Sue Kennedy, But any glass bead in a similar size can be substituted; check your local bead store for supplies.

Step 3

1. Cut a piece of beading wire. Center an 8/0 seed bead, a glass bead, and an 8/0.

2. On each end, string a wood bead and an 8/0, repeating until the strand is within 1 in. (2.5 cm) of the finished length.

If desired, string a different number of beads on each end for asymmetry.

3. On each end, string an 8/0, a crimp bead, and half of a clasp. Check the fit, and add or remove beads if necessary.

Go back through the last few beads strung and tighten the wire. Crimp the crimp bead and trim the excess wire.

TIP: If you use bronze-colored seed beads, use an antiqued brass clasp to match.
