March aquamarine necklace and earrings

Aquamarine nuggets, brass findings, and leather cord are used to make this necklace with earthy style.

SUPPLIES

necklace 18 in. (46 cm) 

  • 16-in. (41 cm) strand 15–25 mm aquamarine nuggets
  • 12 3 mm spacers
  • 15–20 in. (38–51 cm) 2 mm round leather cord
  • 12 2-in. (5 cm) decorative head pins
  • 2 4 mm jump rings
  • 2 pinch ends
  • lobster claw clasp
  • 2 in. (5 cm) chain for extender, 4–5 mm links
  • chainnose and roundnose pliers
  • diagonal wire cutters
  • glue, such as E6000 adhesive

earrings

  • 2 15–25 mm aquamarine nuggets left over from necklace
  • 2 3 mm spacers
  • 2 2-in. (5 cm) decorativehead pins
  • pair of earring wires
  • chainnose and roundnose pliers
  • diagonal wire cutters
Aquamarine nuggets from Rings & Things, rings-things.com. Leather cord from Leather Cord USA, leathercordusa.com. Brass head pins from Jewelrysupply.com. Check your local bead store for supplies.
Tip!
If you’re going to make earrings, pick out two matching gemstones before you make the necklace.

NECKLACE


1. On a decorative head pin, string a spacer and a nugget. Make a wrapped loop large enough to accommodate your leather cord. Make 11 bead units.

2. Cut a 15–20-in. (38–51 cm) piece of leather cord. String the bead units.

3. Apply glue to the inside of a pinch end and one end of the cord. Place the cord in the pinch end. Use chainnose pliers to squeeze the prongs of the pinch end closed. Repeat with the other end of the cord.

4. Open a jump ring and attach the loop of one pinch end and a lobster claw clasp. Close the jump ring.

5. On the other end, use a jump ring to attach a 2-in. (5 cm) piece of chain. Make a bead unit as in step 1 but do not complete the wraps. Attach the bead unit to the chain and complete the wraps.

1. On a decorative head pin, string a spacer and a nugget. Make a wrapped loop.

2. Open the loop of an earring wire and attach the dangle. Close the loop. Make a second earring.
