June birthstone: Petite pearl necklace

Petite pearls make for an easy, dainty strand that goes with everything. Mix in sparkling stardust beads and a curved tube as a focal point, and with just a few elements, you’ll have a super-wearable piece of jewelry.


Necklace 17 in. (43 cm) 

  • 40 mm curved tube bead
  • 150 3 mm crystal pearls: 50 each in light grey, grey, and dark grey
  • 18 3 mm round crystals: 6 each in crystal silver shade, crystal blue shade, and black diamond 
  • 6 3 mm round silver stardust beads
  • flexible beading wire, .014 or .015
  • 2 crimp beads
  • 5 mm soldered jump ring
  • lobster claw clasp
  • chainnose or crimping pliers
  • diagonal wire cutters

Step 1
Cut a 25-in. (64 cm) piece of beading wire. Center a curved tube bead on the wire.

On each end of the wire, string pearls as desired, staggering the placement of crystals and stardust beads, until the strand is within 1 in. (2.5 cm) of the finished length.

On one end, string a crimp bead, a pearl, and a lobster claw clasp. Go back through the beads just strung and tighten the wire.

Step 4
Repeat step 3 on the other end, substituting a jump ring for the clasp. Check the fit and add or remove beads if necessary. Crimp the crimp bead and trim the excess wire.
