March birthstone: Aquamarine metal rose necklace

Brighten up metal rose beads with seed beads in a fresh shade of blue. These budget-friendly supplies are available at any major craft store or your local bead store. Plus you can use the techniques from this necklace with other tiny beads to make all sorts of pretty, dainty jewelry.

SUPPLIES

Necklace 18 1⁄2 in. (47 cm)

  • 55–63 4–5 mm metal beads
  • 7–8 g 6/0 seed beads
  • 35–40 in. (.89–1.02 m) 24-gauge wire
  • 17–19 in. (43–48 cm) cable chain, 3 mm links
  • 27–31 1 1⁄2-in. (3.8 cm) head pins
  • 39–43 4 mm jump rings
  • lobster claw clasp
  • chainnose and roundnose pliers
  • diagonal wire cutters

Earrings

  • 2 4–5 mm metal beads
  • 2 6/0 seed beads
  • 2 1 1⁄2-in. (3.8 cm) head pins
  • pair of earring wires
  • chainnose and roundnose pliers
  • diagonal wire cutters

INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1
On a head pin, string a 6/0 seed bead and a metal bead. Make a wrapped loop, overlapping the wraps if desired. Make 27 to 31 dangles.

Step 2
Cut a 1 1⁄4-in. (3.2 cm) piece of wire. Make a plain loop. String a 6/0, a metal bead, and a 6/0. Make a plain loop. Make 28 to 32 connectors.

Step 3
Open a jump ring. Attach a loop of a connector, a dangle, and a loop of a connector. Close the jump ring.

Step 4
Use jump rings to attach the remaining connectors and dangles. End with a connector.

Step 5
Cut a 17–19-in. (43–48 cm) piece of chain. Use a jump ring to attach an end link, the end loop of a connector, and a lobster claw clasp.

Step 6
On the other end, use a jump ring to attach the end link, the end loop of the connector, and a chain of 10 jump rings.

Earrings
For each earring: Make a dangle as in step 1 of the necklace. Open the loop of an earring wire. Attach the dangle and close the loop.
