March: Aquamarine and quartz necklace

Named Aqua Marina by the Romans because it reminded them of seawater, March’s birthstone comes in several shades of translucent blue. Here, it’s paired with opaque quartz, faceted silver seed beads, and whimsical x-shaped spacers to make an elegant salute to spring.

Step 1
Determine the finished length of your necklace (mine is 18 1⁄2  in./47cm), add 6 in. (15cm), and cut two pieces of beading wire to that length. Center a quartz bead on both strands. Add a disc and a seed bead on each side. Tape one side close to the seed bead so the beads remain centered.

Tighten the wire, crimp the crimp bead, and trim the excess wire. Repeat on the other end, using a soldered jump ring or a split ring in place of the clasp.
