Gemstone bar necklace

This delicate necklace pairs tiny gemstones on fine chain

Pairing tiny tourmaline gemstones with fine 1 millimeter chain adds such a feminine touch to this necklace. Style this piece with a V-neck or over a crewneck. The necklace is delicate, so make sure your loops and findings reflect its small care.

Step 2

1. To make a beaded bar: Cut a 3-in. (7.6 cm) piece of wire and string about 1 1⁄4 in. (3.2 cm) of rondelles, creating an ombré effect if desired. Gently curve the wire. On each end, make the first half of a wrapped loop. Repeat with a 4-in. (10 cm) piece of wire, stringing about 1 3⁄4 in. (4.4 cm) of rondelles.

2. To make a connector: Cut a 2 1⁄2-in. (6.4 cm) piece of wire. On one end, make the first half of a wrapped loop. String a rondelle and make the first half of a wrapped loop. Make a second connector.

3. Cut two 7 1⁄2–8-in. (19.1–20 cm) and two 8–9-in. (20–23 cm) pieces of chain. Attach an end link of each of the shorter pieces to a loop of the shorter beaded bar. Attach an end link of each longer piece to a loop of the remaining bar. Complete the wraps as you go.

4. Check the fit and trim chain links if necessary. On one side, attach one loop of a connector to both end links of chain. Attach a lobster claw clasp to the remaining loop of the connector and complete the wraps. Repeat on the other side, substituting a 1-in. (2.5 cm) chain extender for the clasp.
