Stitched cluster earrings

If you’re new to stitching, this is the design for you! The symmetrical shape magically forms when you go back through a hidden seed bead core, and these beauties are adaptable with an array of beads. Use 4 mm rounds for smaller clusters, try crystal twist pearls for flower-like dangles, or play up the geometric shape with bicone crystals.

  • 12 6 mm round pearls
  • 2 11/0 seed beads
  • 1 g 15/0 seed beads
  • Fireline, 6 lb. test
  • pair of earring wires
  • 2 pairs of pliers
  • diagonal wire cutters
  • beading needle, #12

Check your local bead store for supplies.

Step 1
Thread a needle with a 1-yd. (.9 m) piece of Fireline. Leaving a 6-in. (15 cm) tail, pick up an 11/0 seed bead, a pearl, and a 15/0 seed bead. Skip the 15/0 and sew back through the pearl and the 11/0.

Step 5
Go through beads 1, 3, 5, and 7 from step 4 to make a diamond shape (Fine points, right), then sew back through the pearl.
Stitched cluster earrings Step 6
Step 6
End the thread by sewing back through a few beads, tying two half-hitch knots as you go. Sew back through an adjacent bead to bury the knot; trim the excess thread. Thread a needle on the other thread end and finish in the same manner.
Stitched cluster earrings Step 7
Step 7
Open the loop of an earring wire. Attach the dangle and close the loop. Make a second earring.
Fine points
  • If necessary, use the needle to define the shape of the diamond.
  • You will need to sew back through the beadwork with the tail to finish the end, so make sure it’s long enough (6 in./15 cm or longer).
