Fringed seed bead bracelet

Sew focal beads over a profusion of looped fringe to create a ripple of beads

Focal beads sewn over the profusion of looped fringe on this bracelet spread the fringe so it looks like someone has just jumped into water. You can vary the beads on the fringe, using smaller and more bugle beads, and fewer or more seed beads as desired. Any way you make it, the abundance of fringe makes this bracelet a showstopper.

In the instructions below, you’ll learn how to start this project by making the bracelet base. For full project instructions, download the free PDF.

  • 15g seed beads, size 6/0 or 8/0
  • 1 Hank seed beads, size 11/0
  • 30g 10-12mm Bugle beads
  • 15-20mm Focal bead
  • 2-6 4-6mm Accent beads or crystals
  • Nymo D or Fireline fishing line, 6 lb. test
  • Beading needles, #10 or 12
  • Thread Heaven or beeswax

Make a band with square stitch and embellish it with loopy fringe. Stitch a focal bead arrangement over the center and add a loop and bead clasp. Stitching the base goes faster with 6/0 beads. But using 8/0 beads results in more fringe.

Making the base

1. Thread a needle with 2 yd. (1.8m) of conditioned Nymo or Fireline. String a stop bead 4 in. (10cm) from the tail; sew through it again in the same direction.

2. String enough 6/0 or 8/0 seed beads to go around your wrist with a 1/2-in. (1.3cm) gap. This is row 1.

3. Stitch four rows of square stitch for a total of 5 rows.

4. To end or add thread, sew back through the rows, tying half-hitch knots between beads. When adding thread, start several rows back and exit the last bead worked.
