Pair of earrings

  • 2 4–6 mm beads 
  • sterling silver wire: round, half-hard
  • 8 in. (20 cm) 20-gauge
  • 6 in. (15 cm) 22-gauge 
  • pair of earring findings
  • chainnose pliers
  • roundnose pliers
  • wire cutters

1. Cut 4 in. (10 cm) of 20-gauge wire, and make a right-angle bend about 3⁄8 in. (1 cm) from one end. Following the template, use chainnose and roundnose pliers and your fingers to bend the wire into a bird shape (photo a).

2. Wrap the long wire tail around the 3⁄8-in. (1 cm) stem, and trim (photo b).

3. Make a plain loop with the 3⁄8-in. (1 cm) stem (photo c).

4. Cut 3 in. (7.6 cm) of 22-gauge wire, and make the first half of a wrapped loop at one end. Slide the loop into the loop on the bird charm, and complete the wraps. String a 4–6 mm bead, and make a wrapped loop (photo d).

5. Open the loop of an earring finding and attach the wrapped loop above the bead (photo e).

6. Make a second earring.
