Four featured metal and wire classes at the 2018 Bead & Button Show

We're excited to highlight some brand-new classes that we can't wait to check out at our own Bead&Button Show, the largest consumer bead show event in the world. The Show takes place at the Wisconsin Center in Milwaukee, WI, from June 3-10, 2018. There will be hundreds of classes teaching every kind of jewelry-making technique — come explore and see what you'd like to learn!
Metal Finishing Techniques 101
Metal Finishing Techniques 101

Using an array of power tools, you will create a small dog tag style pendant project under the guidance of instructor Kay Rashka, a seasoned metalsmithing professional and teacher. Additional techniques such as stamping, doming, texturing, and oxidizing will be demonstrated to finish your pendant and to give your metal jewelry a professional finished look.

In addition to working with flex shafts and Dremel brand motorized tools, students will learn the pros and cons of each tool type, safety skills, and how to change out accessory tips, including grinding tips, silicon carbide polishing tips, Cratex bullets and wheels, 3M radial bristle disks, brass wheels, split shaft mandrels, and felt wheels with polishing compound.
Big Ring
Big Ring

Turn your wire weaving skills up a notch as you design and create this large, fashionable ring. Kaska Firor will instruct students on the art of large ring construction for a large stone, as well as developing individual design.
Students will make the ring’s band and the seat for their stone based on the construction method introduced in class. Each student will work on their own unique design to complete their ring. The kit does not include the stone so find a stone that shows off your personality!

Rings That Swing
Rings That Swing

Add a “twist” to an elegant ring with a fun, kinetic mechanism. The forged and fabricated gingko leaf actually spins around the bezel-set center stone by the movement of your hand! It’s a ring, it’s a toy, and it’s sure to provide you with many hours of distracted delight, courtesy of teacher Julie Sanford's whimsical instruction.
As you construct your ring, learn how to create motion mechanisms and practice skills in sawing, hammering, forming, soldering, stone setting and finishing.

Nunn Design
Nunn Design and Apoxie Sculpt Present: Luxe Ring and Hoops

Set seed pearls, rhinestones, and Delicas to create an elegant adjustable ring and a pair of complimentary hoop earrings. Learn techniques for using two-part modeling compound in bezel and channel findings.
Jill Erickson will advise you on time-saving tips for positioning cup chain, Delicas, ball chain, and tiny pearls in pre-fabricated settings. The techniques are transferrable to a variety of projects, and Jill will demonstrate a bonus trick for working with open-back bezels.
