Beaded suede necklace

Supplies

  • 5 12mm glass beads, teardrop-shaped
  • 4 10mm glass beads, round
  • 8 8mm glass beads, round
  • 36 in. (91cm) suede strip 
  • 9 2 1⁄2-in. (6cm) head pins
  • 9 6mm split rings or soldered jump rings
  • chainnose and roundnose pliers
  • diagonal wire cutters

Instructions

Step 1
1. Center a split ring on the suede strip, fold the strip in half, and make an overhand knot 1 1⁄2 in. (4cm) above the split ring.

2. On each side of the strip, tie on three separate split rings spaced 1 1⁄2 in. apart using overhand knots (inset).

3. At each end of the suede strip, attach a split ring with an overhand knot. Tighten the knot close to the split ring. Trim any excess suede.

4. String a teardrop, a 10mm bead, and an 8mm bead onto a head pin to make the necklace’s center dangle. String a teardrop and an 8 or 10mm bead to make each of the end dangles. Continue stringing one or two beads on each head pin in various patterns, one for each split ring on the necklace.

5. To finish the dangles, make the first half of a wrapped loop above the top bead. Slide each loop into its corresponding split ring. Finish the wraps on each dangle and trim the excess wire.
