New Year, New Look

Once a year, the Bead&Button staff does an annual review of the magazine, discussing things we’d like to change, and this year, we decided it was time Bead&Button got a new look. And so, I’m excited to give you a sneak peek of the results, which are being implemented with our February 2017 issue!

The first thing you’ll notice, of course, is the new logo (above). It’s fresh, clean, and modern and I absolutely love it. As you thumb through the issue, you’ll see that the headlines, difficulty ratings, prevailing techniques, and bylines are neatly tucked into a corner, giving more breathing room to the main images, as you can see at right. In addition, a secondary image placed above the materials list for each necklace project shows how the necklace will be worn if you make it in the given dimensions. The colors have been updated to reflect the latest Pantone offerings, and a new set of fonts and graphic elements bring a contemporary look.

We have a few new editorial features, as well, including a Q&A from Diane Fitzgerald and a regular kumihimo column. In addition, we’re highlighting winners from the monthly Facet Design Challenges in each issue — I hope you’ll check it out and join in the fun! And, we’ve replaced the “Basics” column with an expanded “Basic Beading Techniques” booklet that will appear in print in this issue alone, so be sure to hold onto it all year so you can refer back to it for any unfamiliar techniques.

The February issue was on press the other day, and we got the chance to see it as the pages were being assembled and bound into actual magazines. Check out our video on our Facebook page. And thank you for reading Bead&Button!
